homemade big mac sauce recipe
- Total Time: 45 minutes
- Yield: 12 servings 1x
- Diet: Vegetarian
Description
A creamy and tangy homemade Big Mac sauce enhanced with a rich, smoky paprika drizzle, perfect for burgers or fries.
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise (vegetable oil-based)
- 0.25 cup sweet pickle relish
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
- 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
- 0.25 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 0.5 teaspoon smoked paprika (for sauce base)
- 0.25 cup neutral oil (grapeseed, sunflower, or avocado)
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (for drizzle)
- 0.25 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Combine Base Ingredients: Add the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, yellow mustard, white vinegar, granulated sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, 0.5 teaspoon smoked paprika, and fine sea salt to a medium bowl. Whisk thoroughly until all ingredients are fully combined and the mixture is smooth and consistent.
- Prepare Smoky Paprika Drizzle: Heat the neutral oil in a small saucepan over low heat for 2-3 minutes until warm. Remove from the heat and immediately stir in the remaining 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Infuse Drizzle: Allow the oil mixture to sit for at least 5 minutes, giving the heat time to bloom the paprika flavor and turn a rich, deep red color.
- Strain Drizzle: Pour the infused oil through a fine-mesh sieve into a small heatproof bowl to remove any solid particles, ensuring the drizzle is smooth and visually appealing.
- Chill Base Sauce: Transfer the prepared sauce base to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Chilling allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Serve with Drizzle: Spoon the chilled sauce into a small dipping bowl or spread on your burger bun. Carefully drizzle the smoky paprika oil over the top of the sauce just before serving.
Notes
If your relish pieces are too large, give them a quick chop first to avoid a chunky texture in the final sauce. For a simpler version, you can mix all the paprika directly into the base sauce instead of making the separate drizzle.
