- 190g (1.5 cups) All-Purpose Flour (for crust and topping)
- 115g (0.5 cup) Unsalted Butter, Melted (for crust)
- 100g (0.5 cup) Brown Sugar (for crust)
- 115g (0.5 cup) Unsalted Butter, Cold and Cubed (for crumb topping)
- 120g (1 cup) All-Purpose Flour (for crumb topping)
- 150g (0.75 cup) Brown Sugar (for crumb topping)
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon (for crumb topping)
- 0.5 tsp Salt (for crumb topping)
- 300g (2 medium) Apples, Peeled, Cored and Thinly Sliced
- 25g (2 Tbsp) Granulated Sugar (for apple filling)
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon (for apple filling)
- 0.25 tsp Ground Nutmeg
- 0.25 tsp Ground Ginger
- 1 Tbsp (15ml) Fresh Lemon Juice
- 115g (4 oz) Cream Cheese, Softened
- 30g (2 Tbsp) Powdered Sugar
- 0.25 tsp Ground Cardamom
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 Tbsp (15ml) Milk
- 2 Tbsp (15g) Sliced Almonds, Toasted (garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a 20x20cm (8×8 inch) pan with parchment paper.
- Make the Crust: Combine flour, brown sugar, and melted butter; press into the pan.
- Prepare Apple Filling: Toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and lemon juice.
- Layer Apples: Spread apple mixture over the crust.
- Make Crumb Topping: Cut cold butter into flour, then mix in brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Sprinkle Topping: Sprinkle crumb topping over apples.
- Make Cream Cheese Swirl: Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, cardamom, vanilla, and milk.
- Swirl: Drop cream cheese mixture over topping and swirl gently.
- Bake: Bake for 35-40 minutes, until golden brown and apples are tender.
- Cool and Garnish: Cool, then garnish with toasted almonds.
