  • 120g (1 cup) All-Purpose Flour (for crumb topping)
  • 150g (0.75 cup) Brown Sugar (for crumb topping)
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon (for crumb topping)
  • 0.5 tsp Salt (for crumb topping)
  • 300g (2 medium) Apples, Peeled, Cored and Thinly Sliced
  • 25g (2 Tbsp) Granulated Sugar (for apple filling)
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon (for apple filling)
  • 0.25 tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1 Tbsp (15ml) Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 115g (4 oz) Cream Cheese, Softened
  • 30g (2 Tbsp) Powdered Sugar
  • 0.25 tsp Ground Cardamom
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Tbsp (15ml) Milk
  • 2 Tbsp (15g) Sliced Almonds, Toasted (garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a 20x20cm (8×8 inch) pan with parchment paper.
  2. Make the Crust: Combine flour, brown sugar, and melted butter; press into the pan.
  3. Prepare Apple Filling: Toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and lemon juice.
  4. Layer Apples: Spread apple mixture over the crust.
  5. Make Crumb Topping: Cut cold butter into flour, then mix in brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  6. Sprinkle Topping: Sprinkle crumb topping over apples.
  7. Make Cream Cheese Swirl: Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, cardamom, vanilla, and milk.
  8. Swirl: Drop cream cheese mixture over topping and swirl gently.
  9. Bake: Bake for 35-40 minutes, until golden brown and apples are tender.
