Description

This Apple Desserts with Cinnamon Crumble Topping is a simple, hearty, family-friendly treat, perfect for cozy evenings and bringing classic home flavors to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 medium apples (about 6 cups sliced), peeled, cored, and sliced (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • 0.5 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 12 Tablespoons lemon juice (optional)
  • Pinch ground nutmeg or allspice (optional)
  • 0.25 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apples: Peel, core, and slice 6-8 apples (6 cups). Toss them with 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon until fragrant. Spread the apple mixture evenly into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Make Crumble Topping: In a bowl, combine 1 cup all-purpose flour, 0.5 cup light brown sugar, 0.5 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 0.5 cup old-fashioned rolled oats. Cut in 0.5 cup cold, cubed unsalted butter until coarse crumbs form. (If the mixture appears too dry, add 1-2 Tablespoons of ice-cold water).
  3. Assemble and Bake: Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the prepared apples in the baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-50 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and bubbly.

Notes

If the crumble topping looks dry, add 1-2 Tbsp ice-cold water. For peak flavor, use firm, blemish-free apples. Apples pair well with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla. A splash of lemon juice can prevent browning and brighten apple flavor. For extra crunch, add 0.25 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumble.
