Description

This banana bariatric shake recipe offers a creamy, spiced, high-protein blend, perfect for anyone needing a quick, satisfying meal or snack, especially beneficial for post-op recovery. It’s simple to make, packed with goodness, and a smart choice for your wellness journey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium ripe banana (about 120 g), peeled and frozen
  • 1 scoop (30 g) unflavored plant-based protein powder
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 0.0625 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch freshly ground black pepper (optional)
  • 12 drops liquid stevia or other sugar-free sweetener, to taste (optional)
  • 20 g shelled unsalted pistachios, lightly toasted
  • 10 g dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher), finely grated

Instructions

  1. Prepare Toppings: Roughly chop 15 g (0.5 oz) pistachios; set aside 5 g (0.2 oz) whole. Finely grate 10 g (0.35 oz) dark chocolate.
  2. Combine Shake Ingredients: In a high-speed blender, add frozen banana, protein powder, almond milk, cardamom, cinnamon, and black pepper. Add liquid stevia if desired.
  3. Blend Until Smooth: Blend on high speed until completely smooth and creamy (30-60 seconds). If too thick, add 15-30 mL (1-2 Tbsp) almond milk until desired consistency.
  4. Assemble First Layer: Pour half the shake into a tall glass. Evenly sprinkle half the grated chocolate and chopped pistachios over this.
  5. Layer and Finish: Gently pour remaining shake over the first layer. Top with remaining grated chocolate. Arrange reserved whole pistachios. Serve immediately for cold, creamy texture and crunch.

Notes

For the creamiest result, use a medium, fully frozen ripe banana. Avoid over-blending to prevent the shake from warming and becoming frothy. Adjust sweetness to taste with liquid stevia. This recipe is naturally dairy-free and plant-based. For low-carb diets, ensure your protein powder is sugar-free.
