- 6 Tbsp (85g) melted unsalted butter
- One 14-ounce (397g) can dulce de leche
- 3–4 ripe, firm medium bananas, sliced 0.25-inch thick
- 1.5 cups (360ml) cold heavy whipping cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 Tbsp (10g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1–2 tsp melted unsalted butter or milk
Instructions
- Prep the Crust: Crush biscuits finely. Mix with melted butter. Press firmly into a 9-inch pie dish. Chill 30 minutes to set; crust will feel firm.
- Layer Dulce de Leche: Spread room-temperature dulce de leche evenly over the chilled crust. (If too firm, warm can in hot water for 5 minutes.) It should look smooth.
- Slice and Arrange Bananas: Slice bananas 0.25-inch thick. Arrange in a single layer over the dulce de leche. This layer adds sweet freshness.
- Whip the Cream: In a cold bowl, whip heavy cream with vanilla until stiff peaks form. The cream will be airy. Gently spread this over the bananas.
- Add Cocoa Drizzle Top: Whisk cocoa powder with melted butter or milk to a thick paste. Drizzle artfully over the cream with a spoon.
- Chill Pie: Refrigerate uncovered for 1 hour to set cream. Cover loosely, then chill at least 4 hours or overnight for best slicing.
Notes
For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free biscuits for the crust. A pinch of sea salt in the crust or over the dulce de leche enhances all the sweet notes. The pie can be prepared the night before for easy entertaining.
