- 120ml (½ cup) Honey: Imparts floral notes and natural sweetness.
- 100ml (⅓ cup + 1 Tbsp) Whole Milk: Provides moisture and binds ingredients.
- 1 Large Egg: Acts as a binder and adds richness.
- 1 tsp Orange Zest: Infuses citrus aroma and flavor.
- 1 Tbsp (15ml) Orange Juice: Amplifies orange flavor.
- 60g (¼ cup) Honey: For a glossy glaze.
- 30ml (2 Tbsp) Orange Juice: Balances glaze sweetness.
- 1 Tbsp (15g) Unsalted Butter: Adds shine to the glaze.
- 1 Tbsp (8g) Powdered Sugar (Optional): For thicker glaze.
- 1 Tbsp (8g) Toasted Almond Slivers: Adds crunch and nutty flavor.
- Candied Orange Peel: Provides visual contrast and citrus sweetness.
Instructions
- Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease/line a 23cm (9-inch) cake pan.
- Combine Dry: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream Butter & Honey: Cream butter and honey until light and fluffy, then beat in the egg.
- Add Wet: Stir in orange zest, juice, and milk.
- Combine Wet & Dry: Gently fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients.
- Bake: Pour batter into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Make Glaze: Heat honey, orange juice, and butter until glossy.
- Glaze Cake: Poke holes in warm cake and pour glaze over it.
- Cool & Invert: Cool completely before inverting.
- Final Glaze & Garnish: Drizzle remaining glaze and garnish with almonds and orange peel.
