Description

Buttery, pan-baked biscuits that are incredibly easy and foolproof. Perfect for busy families or a quick breakfast, with options for dietary needs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups / 240g All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons / 25g Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup / 240ml Whole milk
  • 1 stick, 1/2 cup / 113g Unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Melt Butter: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). While it’s heating, melt 1 stick (1/2 cup) of unsalted butter. Once melted, pour it directly into a 9×13 inch baking dish, ensuring it coats the bottom evenly.
  2. Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the 2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and 1 teaspoon salt.
  3. Combine Wet & Dry: Pour the 1 cup milk into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spoon until just combined. The dough will be shaggy and sticky – resist the urge to overmix!
  4. Spoon into Dish: Carefully spoon the shaggy biscuit dough evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Gently spread it to the edges with the back of your spoon or a spatula.
  5. Bake to Golden Perfection: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is beautifully golden brown and the biscuits are puffed up and cooked through. The edges should look slightly crispy.

Notes

  • Dietary Alternatives: For gluten-free, swap in a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend. For dairy-free/vegan, use dairy-free milk (e.g., almond, oat) and plant-based butter.
  • Flavor Variations: For a savory spin, add a pinch of garlic powder to the dry ingredients. Or, for a slightly sweeter biscuit, a touch of honey stirred into the milk can be delightful.
  • Quick Swaps: Any type of milk (dairy or non-dairy) can be used successfully. Pre-melting your butter in the microwave can also speed up your prep time.
  • Troubleshooting: If your biscuits are flatter than expected, your baking powder might be old. If they turn out dry, it’s likely you overmixed the dough; remember, a light touch is best for tender biscuits!
