Description
Our easy cinnamon roll casserole recipe with cream cheese icing swirl delivers an irresistible, warm scent and gooey texture without the usual fuss. It transforms simple ingredients into a show-stopping breakfast perfect for busy mornings or holiday brunches.
Ingredients
- 2 tubes (8-count each) canned cinnamon rolls, icing reserved
- 2 large eggs
- 0.5 cup milk or half-and-half
- 0.25 cup granulated sugar or maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1.5 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 to 2 tbsp milk (for icing, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven & Prep Rolls: Preheat your oven to 375F (190C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Open the canned cinnamon rolls and separate the dough. Cut each roll into 4-6 bite-sized pieces. Arrange these pieces evenly in the prepared dish until they form a single layer, ensuring some gaps for the custard to soak in.
- Whisk Custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk (or half-and-half), granulated sugar (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract until the mixture is completely smooth and pale yellow.
- Pour Custard & Bake: Pour the whisked custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces in the dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown and the center feels set. If the top browns too quickly, loosely tent the dish with aluminum foil.
- Prepare Icing: While the casserole bakes, prepare the cream cheese icing. In a small bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and melted butter together until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, then 1-2 tablespoons of milk (either from the reserved cinnamon roll packages or extra milk from your fridge) until a smooth, spreadable consistency is achieved.
- Swirl Icing & Serve: Once the casserole is out of the oven, immediately drizzle generously with the prepared cream cheese icing swirl. Serve this delightful treat warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
Easily adapt this recipe for gluten-free or dairy-free diets by using appropriate substitutions. Reduce sugar by using unsweetened plant milk and halving the granulated sugar in the custard. Serve warm for best taste, possibly with a side of fruit or scrambled eggs for a wholesome touch.
