Description

This creamy, savory Classic Cheese Ball with Pecans and Chives is a foolproof, no-cook appetizer perfect for effortless entertaining. Features cheddar, cream cheese, and a crunchy pecan-chive coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2x 8oz blocks cream cheese, softened
  • 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & Black Pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup pecans, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh chives, finely snipped

Instructions

  1. Soften Cream Cheese (5-10 minutes). Allow cream cheese to sit at room temperature until very soft. This is crucial for a smooth mixture.
  2. Combine Base Ingredients (5 minutes). In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix with an electric mixer or sturdy spoon until completely smooth and well combined.
  3. Shape the Cheese Ball (5 minutes). Scrape the mixture onto a piece of plastic wrap. Gather the plastic wrap around the mixture and use your hands to gently shape it into a neat ball.
  4. Chill (at least 2 hours). Refrigerate the shaped cheese ball for a minimum of 2 hours, or until firm. This helps it hold its shape.
  5. Coat and Serve (5 minutes). On a shallow plate, combine the chopped pecans and snipped chives. Once the cheese ball is firm, unwrap it and roll it gently in the pecan-chive mixture, pressing lightly to ensure an even coating. Serve immediately.

Notes

Substitutions: For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce. Walnuts or almonds can replace pecans; omit for nut-free. Fresh parsley or dill can be used instead of chives. Monterey Jack or Colby cheese can be swapped for cheddar for a milder taste.

Quality Tips: Use full-fat cream cheese and shred your own sharp cheddar. Lightly toast pecans for enhanced flavor. Fresh chives and good quality Worcestershire sauce make a difference.

Storage: Store leftover cheese ball tightly wrapped in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

Dietary Note: This recipe can be made gluten-free by ensuring a certified gluten-free Worcestershire sauce is used.
