Description

Soft, fluffy dinner rolls made with butter, milk, and yeast. Perfect for family dinners, holidays, or make-ahead baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk or water, warmed to 110°F
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: garlic butter, honey, almond flour, or herbs

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: Warm milk or water to 110°F, stir in sugar and yeast, and let sit until bubbly, about 5–10 minutes.
  2. Mix dough: Combine flour, butter, sugar, salt, and yeast mixture until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead: Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes or in a stand mixer for 6–7 minutes until smooth.
  4. First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Shape rolls: Divide dough into 12–15 balls, arrange in greased baking dish.
  6. Second rise: Cover and let rise until puffy, about 30 minutes.
  7. Bake: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes, brush with melted butter.

Notes

  • For dairy-free rolls, use oat or almond milk and dairy-free butter.
  • For a chewier texture, substitute bread flour for all-purpose flour.
