double chocolate chip cookies Soft and Chewy
- Total Time: 40 minutes
- Yield: 24 cookies 1x
- Diet: General
Description
This recipe delivers perfectly soft and chewy double chocolate chip cookies with melty centers, offering a rich aroma and satisfying chocolate cravings for an easy, premium-tasting homemade treat.
Ingredients
- 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
- 0.75 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 0.5 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 0.5 cup granulated sugar
- 0.75 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 0.5 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon espresso powder (optional)
- Flaky sea salt (optional, for topping)
- 0.5 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Prep Baking Space: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two standard baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined and lump-free.
- Cream Butter And Sugars: Using an electric mixer in a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add Eggs And Vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until just combined.
- Combine Wet And Dry: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet, mixing on low speed only until just combined. If dough looks dry, splash in 1–2 Tbsp milk.
- Stir In Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in both semisweet and milk chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- Scoop And Bake: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets. Bake for 9-11 minutes, until edges are set but centers are still soft.
- Cool And Enjoy: Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For dairy-free, use plant-based butter and dairy-free chocolate chips. For gluten-free, use 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. If cookies spread too much, butter may be too warm or baking soda lost its potency. Avoid overmixing for soft, chewy texture.
