Description
Creamy French onion dip made with sour cream, caramelized onions, and cream cheese — perfect for parties and family snacking.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 ½ cups caramelized onions (about 3 large onions, slowly cooked in butter or oil)
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley
- Optional: 1 tsp beef bouillon
- Optional: 2 tbsp fresh chives
- Optional: ½ cup shredded mozzarella
Instructions
- Prepare the onions: Slice onions thinly and cook in a skillet over medium-low heat with 2 tbsp butter or oil until deeply golden and caramelized, 30–40 minutes. If using soup mix, skip to step 2.
- Mix the dairy base: In a large bowl, beat sour cream, cream cheese, and mayonnaise until smooth.
- Combine flavors: Stir in the caramelized onions (or soup mix), seasonings, and optional boosters like bouillon or chives.
- Chill for best taste: Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld.
- Optional baked version: Transfer to an oven-safe dish, sprinkle with shredded mozzarella, and bake at 375°F (190°C) until bubbly, about 15 minutes.
Notes
- For extra protein, replace half the sour cream with cottage cheese.
- Use Greek yogurt for a lighter, tangier dip.
- For low-sodium diets, use reduced-salt seasoning blends.
- Plant-based sour cream or cashew cream works for a vegan version.
