in n out sauce recipe
- Total Time: 35 minutes
- Yield: 1.2 cups (approx. 10 servings) 1x
- Diet: General
Description
This recipe provides a homemade version of the iconic In-N-Out sauce, offering a creamy, tangy, and zesty condiment perfect for burgers, fries, or quick family meals. It’s designed to transform ordinary dishes into a crave-worthy feast.
Ingredients
- 180 ml mayonnaise (3/4 cup, or use avocado oil mayo for a healthier twist)
- 60 ml ketchup (1/4 cup, or use sugar-free ketchup for a low-carb meal option)
- 30 ml sweet pickle relish (2 tbsp, or use finely chopped dill pickles with a pinch of sugar when out)
- 15 ml white vinegar (1 tbsp)
- 7.5 ml granulated sugar (1.5 tsp)
- 2.5 ml onion powder (0.5 tsp)
- 2.5 ml garlic powder (0.5 tsp)
- 1.25 ml smoked paprika (0.25 tsp)
Instructions
- Combine Base Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, granulated sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Stir until the mixture is smooth and an even pale orange color appears.
- Whisk Thoroughly: Continue whisking until all ingredients are well incorporated and the sauce looks creamy, without any lumps.
- Taste and Adjust: Dip a spoon and taste. The flavors should be balanced (tangy, sweet, and savory). If too sweet, add a tiny splash more vinegar; if not tangy enough, a pinch more relish can brighten it up.
- Chill for Flavor Development: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This chilling time allows all flavors to meld beautifully, creating a richer, authentic taste, and the sauce will thicken slightly.
Notes
For enhanced flavor, use organic mayonnaise or fresh minced garlic instead of powder. If sweet pickle relish is unavailable, use finely chopped dill pickles with a pinch of sugar. Apple cider vinegar can offer a mellow tang. Chill the sauce for at least 30 minutes for best flavor development; longer chilling is even better. If the sauce is too thin, add 5-10 ml (1-2 tsp) more mayonnaise. If not tangy enough, add more vinegar or relish. A pinch of onion powder can round out the flavor.
