Description
This easy homemade syrup combines lavender and saffron for a unique floral and golden-hued flavor, perfect for adding to tea, coffee, cocktails, or brunch dishes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup filtered water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons dried culinary lavender buds
- 0.25 teaspoon saffron threads, gently crushed
- 1 pinch fine sea salt
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients in Pan: Combine the filtered water, granulated sugar, dried culinary lavender buds, gently crushed saffron threads, and fine sea salt in a medium-sized, non-reactive saucepan.
- Bring to a Gentle Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir occasionally until the sugar is completely dissolved. Avoid vigorous boiling during this step.
- Infuse Gently for 5 Minutes: Reduce the heat to low and allow the mixture to simmer very gently for exactly 5 minutes, maintaining a low, gentle simmer to prevent bitterness from the lavender.
- Steep for 30 Minutes to 2 Hours: Remove the saucepan from the heat, cover with a lid, and let the syrup steep for at least 30 minutes for a subtle taste, or up to 2 hours for a more pronounced flavor.
- Strain the Finished Syrup: Strain the finished syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean, heatproof jar or bottle. Discard the lavender buds and saffron threads.
- Cool and Store: Allow the infused syrup to cool completely to room temperature before securing the lid. Store in a refrigerator in an airtight container for up to two weeks or freeze in ice cube trays for longer storage.
Notes
Avoid vigorous boiling of the syrup mixture to prevent bitterness from the lavender. For longer storage, freeze the syrup in small ice cube trays.
