Description

This vibrant lemon ginger turmeric shot recipe offers an awakening aroma and a zingy flavor, designed as a quick, healthy boost to support wellness, especially during cold seasons.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 150 g fresh ginger root, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 75 g fresh turmeric root, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (from 45 medium lemons)
  • 1012 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey, optional
  • 1 small blood orange, very thinly sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Thoroughly wash and peel the ginger and turmeric roots. Roughly chop them into smaller pieces. Juice your lemons to yield about 1 cup.
  2. Blend Mixture: In a high-speed blender, combine chopped ginger, chopped turmeric, fresh lemon juice, lightly crushed green cardamom pods, and filtered water. Blend on high speed for 1-2 minutes until smooth and uniform.
  3. Strain Liquid: Place a fine-mesh sieve over a large bowl. Pour the blended mixture through the sieve, pressing on the solids with a spoon or spatula to extract as much liquid as possible.
  4. Sweeten and Chill: Discard the fibrous solids. If desired, stir in the raw honey until dissolved and adjust sweetness to taste. Transfer the strained liquid to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour until thoroughly chilled.
  5. Serve Shots: Pour the vibrant liquid into small glasses. Garnish with a thin slice of blood orange or a sprinkle of finely crushed cardamom seeds if desired.

Notes

Use a spoon to peel ginger root for ease. If fresh turmeric is unavailable, use 2-3 teaspoons of ground turmeric. For best taste, use fresh lemon juice, though bottled can work in a pinch. Maple syrup is a good plant-based sweetener alternative, or omit honey for a low-carb version. For a smoother shot, use a nut milk bag to strain. For organic roots, scrubbing well can replace peeling to save time. Add cayenne pepper for a kick, or fresh fruit (orange/apple) for sweetness.
