Description

This mashed sweet potato recipe with a Pecan Praline Stripe is a comforting and easy-to-make side dish, perfect for elevating weeknight meals into special occasions with its sweet, nutty aroma and gourmet taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs sweet potatoes
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream or whole milk
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter (for mash)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for praline)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (for mash)
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar (for praline)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep Sweet Potatoes: Peel and chop 3 lbs sweet potatoes into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Cook Until Tender: Place cubes in a large pot, cover with water, bring to boil, cook until fork-tender. Drain well to avoid a watery mash.
  3. Mash The Base: Return cooked sweet potatoes to the pot. Add 0.5 cup heavy cream, 0.25 cup butter, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 0.5 tsp nutmeg, 1 tsp vanilla. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt. If it looks dry, splash in 1-2 Tbsp warm milk to reach desired consistency.
  4. Prepare Praline Stripe: In a small saucepan, melt 2 tbsp butter with 0.25 cup brown sugar and 1 cup chopped pecans. Stir until sugar dissolves and pecans are fragrant. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  5. Assemble And Serve: Transfer the fluffy mashed sweet potato to a serving dish. Drizzle or spoon the warm Pecan Praline Stripe over the top. This mashed sweet potato recipe Pecan Praline Stripe is best enjoyed warm.

Notes

The mash can be made ahead of time. For dietary adjustments, almond milk or plant-based butter can be used. Pure maple syrup is an alternative to brown sugar. Ensure pecans are fresh. Best served warm; adjust cream or butter for richness.
