This One-Pan Creamy Tomato Pasta is a quick and easy weeknight meal, featuring a rich tomato sauce and a beautiful smoked paprika cream swirl. It minimizes cleanup while maximizing flavor.

- 250g (9oz) penne or rigatoni pasta
- 1 Tbsp (15ml) olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced (≈150g / 5oz)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 400g (14oz) canned crushed tomatoes
- 250ml (1 cup) vegetable broth
- 200ml (¾ cup) heavy cream (halal-certified)
- 100ml (⅓ cup) heavy cream (for swirl, halal-certified)
- 1 tsp (5g / 0.2oz) smoked paprika
- ½ tsp (2g) salt, to taste
- ¼ tsp (0.5g) black pepper
- 50g (½ cup) Parmesan cheese (halal-certified)
- 2 Tbsp (30ml) fresh basil, chopped
- 2 Tbsp (30g) pine nuts, toasted
- Optional: red-pepper flakes for heat
Instructions
- Sauté Aromatics: Heat oil, sauté onion until translucent (3-4 mins), then add garlic and cook until fragrant (30 secs).
- Build Tomato Base: Add crushed tomatoes and broth, bring to a boil, season with salt, pepper, and red-pepper flakes.
- One-Pan Pasta: Add pasta to sauce, simmer covered for 10-12 mins, stirring occasionally until al dente.
- Creamy Perfection: Stir in 200ml cream and Parmesan, simmer for 2 mins until smooth.
- Paprika Swirl: Whisk 100ml cream with paprika and salt.
- Artful Swirl & Finish: Swirl paprika cream into pasta, season to taste, sprinkle with remaining Parmesan.
- Serve & Enjoy: Plate, drizzle with cream, garnish with pine nuts and basil.
Notes
For a lighter sauce, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream. Toasted pine nuts add a delightful crunch.
