- 250g (2 cups) All-Purpose Flour, sifted
- 200g (1 cup) Granulated Sugar
- 2 tsp (8g) Baking Powder
- 1 tsp (5g) Ground Cinnamon
- ½ tsp (2.5g) Salt
- 120g (½ cup) Unsalted Butter, melted and cooled
- 2 Large Eggs, room temperature
- 180ml (¾ cup) Whole Milk, room temperature
- 1 tsp (5ml) Alcohol-Free Vanilla Extract
- 100g (3½ oz) Cream Cheese, softened
- 50g (¼ cup) Powdered Sugar
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Fresh Orange Juice (for swirl)
- 1 tsp Orange Zest (for swirl)
- 100g (½ cup) Brown Sugar (for glaze)
- 50g (¼ cup) Unsalted Butter (for glaze)
- 2 tbsp (30ml) Fresh Orange Juice (for glaze)
- 1 tsp Orange Zest (for glaze)
- Pinch of Salt (for glaze)
- Additional Orange Zest – for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat & Prepare: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease/line a 23cm (9-inch) cake pan.
- Combine Dry: Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- Combine Wet: Whisk melted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla.
- Combine Mixtures: Gently combine wet and dry ingredients until just incorporated.
- First Batter Layer: Spread half the batter into the pan.
- Make Swirl: Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest until smooth.
- Swirl It: Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese mixture over batter and gently swirl.
- Second Layer: Spoon remaining batter over swirl and spread gently.
- Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool: Cool in pan for 10-15 minutes before inverting.
- Make Glaze: Melt butter and brown sugar, then whisk in orange juice, zest, and salt.
- Glaze & Garnish: Drizzle glaze over warm cake and garnish with orange zest.
Notes
For a more tender crumb, use cake flour. Ensure the pan is well-greased to prevent sticking.
