Description

  • 200g (1 cup) Granulated Sugar
  • 2 tsp (8g) Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp (5g) Ground Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp (2.5g) Salt
  • 120g (½ cup) Unsalted Butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 Large Eggs, room temperature
  • 180ml (¾ cup) Whole Milk, room temperature
  • 1 tsp (5ml) Alcohol-Free Vanilla Extract
  • 100g (3½ oz) Cream Cheese, softened
  • 50g (¼ cup) Powdered Sugar
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) Fresh Orange Juice (for swirl)
  • 1 tsp Orange Zest (for swirl)
  • 100g (½ cup) Brown Sugar (for glaze)
  • 50g (¼ cup) Unsalted Butter (for glaze)
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) Fresh Orange Juice (for glaze)
  • 1 tsp Orange Zest (for glaze)
  • Pinch of Salt (for glaze)
  • Additional Orange Zest – for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prepare: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease/line a 23cm (9-inch) cake pan.
  2. Combine Dry: Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet: Whisk melted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Gently combine wet and dry ingredients until just incorporated.
  5. First Batter Layer: Spread half the batter into the pan.
  6. Make Swirl: Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest until smooth.
  7. Swirl It: Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese mixture over batter and gently swirl.
  8. Second Layer: Spoon remaining batter over swirl and spread gently.
  9. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool: Cool in pan for 10-15 minutes before inverting.
  11. Make Glaze: Melt butter and brown sugar, then whisk in orange juice, zest, and salt.
  12. Glaze & Garnish: Drizzle glaze over warm cake and garnish with orange zest.

Notes

For a more tender crumb, use cake flour. Ensure the pan is well-greased to prevent sticking.
