Description

This homemade tropical smoothie combines frozen fruit (pineapple, banana, and strawberries) with a rich cardamom-coconut swirl, offering a healthy and refreshing treat reminiscent of a copycat recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 cups (200 g) frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 medium (100 g) frozen banana slices
  • 1/3 cup (50 g) frozen strawberries
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) unsweetened coconut water
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) agave syrup, optional for smoothie
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) full-fat coconut cream, chilled overnight
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 g) ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tablespoon (7 ml) agave syrup, for swirl
  • 1/8 teaspoon (0.5 g) sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) fresh coconut or pineapple dice, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cardamom Swirl: Chill a full-fat can of coconut milk overnight. Carefully scoop the thick, solid coconut cream from the top into a small bowl, leaving the clear liquid behind. Add the ground cardamom, 1/2 tablespoon of agave syrup, and sea salt. Use a small whisk to beat the mixture for 1-2 minutes until it is smooth, creamy, and aerated. Refrigerate while preparing the smoothie.
  2. Blend Smoothie Base: In a high-speed blender, combine the frozen pineapple chunks, frozen banana slices, frozen strawberries, coconut water, lime juice, and optional 1 tablespoon of agave syrup. Blend on high speed until completely smooth and creamy, adding extra coconut water one tablespoon at a time if the mixture is too thick.
  3. Layer and Swirl: Pour approximately half of the blended smoothie into a tall serving glass. Drop two dollops of the prepared cardamom swirl onto the surface of the smoothie layer. Pour the remaining smoothie into the glass on top of the first layer.
  4. Create Swirl Effect: Using a long spoon or straw, gently swirl the coconut cream into the layers of the smoothie with slow, deliberate motions. Avoid overmixing, as the goal is distinct ribbons.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Drizzle any remaining cardamom swirl over the top of the smoothie and sprinkle with fresh coconut or small pineapple dice. Serve immediately in the clear glass to showcase the elegant swirl.

Notes

To achieve a thick, non-diluted consistency for the cardamom swirl, ensure you use full-fat canned coconut milk and chill it overnight. Avoid overmixing the swirl to create distinct ribbons in the smoothie. Serve immediately for optimal texture and flavor.
