12 sheets lasagna noodles (oven-ready or boiled)

500 grams ground beef

300 grams Italian sausage (optional)

800 grams tomato sauce

500 grams ricotta cheese

300 grams shredded mozzarella cheese

100 grams grated Parmesan cheese

2 large eggs

1 medium onion, finely chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup milk

A handful fresh basil, chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

1 teaspoon dried oregano


Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, brown ground beef and Italian sausage. Drain excess fat.

Add onion and garlic, sauté until fragrant (2-3 minutes).

Stir in tomato sauce, milk, salt, pepper, and oregano. Simmer for 20-25 minutes.

In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, eggs, and chopped basil.

Spread 1 cup of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping.

Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1 cup of mozzarella and 1/3 cup of Parmesan.

Repeat layers: sauce, noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan.

Finish with a final layer of noodles, remaining sauce, and a generous topping of mozzarella and Parmesan.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.

Remove foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and slightly browned.

Let lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Substitute ricotta with cottage cheese or béchamel sauce if preferred.

Use no-boil lasagna noodles for a quicker preparation.
