ranch seasoning recipe

  • Author: Jusmira Rayne
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cup seasoning blend 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

This homemade seasoning blend combines tangy buttermilk powder with aromatic dried herbs and a unique sun-dried tomato and basil twist, perfect for marinades, dips, or seasoning roasted vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 100 g (1 cup) dried buttermilk powder
  • 15 g (2 tablespoons) dried parsley flakes
  • 7 g (1 tablespoon) dried dill weed
  • 10 g (1 tablespoon) garlic powder
  • 10 g (1 tablespoon) onion powder
  • 10 g (1.5 teaspoons) fine sea salt
  • 3 g (0.5 teaspoon) freshly ground black pepper
  • 15 g (2 tablespoons) dried sun-dried tomatoes, finely ground into a powder
  • 7 g (1 tablespoon) dried basil
  • 2 g (0.5 teaspoon) granulated sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Basil: If using oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, drain them thoroughly and blot dry with paper towels. Ensure they are completely dry before proceeding; for a very fine powder, you may spread them on a baking sheet and bake at 100°C (212°F) for 15-20 minutes until crisp, then cool completely. In a food processor or spice grinder, combine the dried sun-dried tomatoes and dried basil, pulsing until finely ground into a powder with small red and green flecks.
  2. Combine Seasoning Base: In a medium, completely dry mixing bowl, add the buttermilk powder, parsley flakes, dill weed, garlic powder, onion powder, fine sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, and optional granulated sugar. Whisk these ingredients together briefly to break up any clumps.
  3. Integrate Sun-Dried Tomato Twist: Add the finely ground sun-dried tomato and basil mixture to the bowl with the other dry ingredients. Whisk all ingredients vigorously for 1-2 minutes until thoroughly combined and the red and green flecks are evenly distributed. If clumping occurs from residual oil, add 1 teaspoon of cornstarch and whisk again.
  4. Store the Blend: Transfer the finished seasoning blend to an airtight jar or container. Store in a cool, dark pantry away from direct sunlight for up to 3 months.

Notes

To avoid clumping, ensure sun-dried tomatoes are completely dry before grinding; blot oil-packed tomatoes thoroughly or bake briefly. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 months in a cool, dark place. For a classic dip, combine 2 tablespoons of seasoning with 1 cup of sour cream or Greek yogurt and refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving.
