Description

This Salmon Patty Recipe with Lemon Dill Sauce is a healthy, delicious family meal for busy weeknights, offering crispy edges and a bright, creamy finish. It’s a nutritious and budget-friendly option that delivers big flavor in minimal time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 15 oz (425g) canned salmon
  • 0.5 cup (60g) breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.25 cup (5g) fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 lemon, zest and juice
  • 0.5 cup (120g) mayonnaise or Greek yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp (15ml) olive oil
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare Salmon: Drain the canned salmon exceptionally well, then flake it into a large mixing bowl, ensuring no large chunks remain.
  2. Mix Patty Ingredients: Add the breadcrumbs, egg, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and desired salt and pepper to the flaked salmon. Combine gently with a fork until just mixed.
  3. Form Patties: Divide the mixture and shape it into 6-8 uniform patties, each about 0.5 inch thick and 3-4 inches wide.
  4. Cook Patties: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a 10-inch non-stick skillet over medium heat until shimmering. Carefully place the patties in the hot pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side until they’re beautifully golden brown, heated through, and have crispy edges.
  5. Make Lemon Dill Sauce: While the patties cook, whisk together 0.5 cup mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt), the remaining fresh chopped dill, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt and pepper in a small bowl until smooth and creamy.

Notes

For gluten-free salmon patties, use gluten-free breadcrumbs. For dairy-free, ensure your mayonnaise is dairy-free and omit the Greek yogurt option for the sauce. Use pre-chopped dill for a weeknight shortcut, or a mini food processor for super-speedy chopping. The sauce can be prepared ahead of time.
