Description

These Smoked Turkey and Cheese Pinwheels with Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto Swirl are an easy and impressive appetizer. Flaky puff pastry is filled with savory turkey, cheddar, and a vibrant sun-dried tomato pesto for a delightful combination of flavors and textures.


Ingredients

  • 275g puff pastry (1 sheet)
  • 150g smoked turkey breast, sliced
  • 100g cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 50g cream cheese, softened
  • 30g sun-dried tomatoes in oil, drained and chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 5ml olive oil (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
  • Shaved Parmesan cheese, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven & Sheet: Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make Pesto: Combine cream cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, garlic, and olive oil; season with salt and pepper.
  3. Prepare Pastry: Gently roll out puff pastry on a floured surface.
  4. Layer Turkey: Arrange turkey evenly over pastry, leaving a border.
  5. Add Cheese & Pesto: Sprinkle cheese over turkey, then spread pesto down the center.
  6. Roll & Seal: Roll pastry tightly into a log, sealing the edge with water.
  7. Cut Pinwheels: Cut log into 12 pinwheels and place seam-side down on the sheet.
  8. Bake: Brush with egg wash and bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown.
  9. Cool & Garnish: Cool slightly, then garnish with basil and Parmesan.

Notes

For best results, keep puff pastry cold. Feel free to substitute turkey with ham or chicken.
