Texas Fudge Recipe Rich Chocolate Squares
- Total Time: 2 hours 25 minutes
- Yield: 16 servings 1x
- Diet: Gluten Free
Description
Decadent, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate squares are simple to make with pantry staples like cocoa, sugar, butter, and milk. A perfect, rich treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups (400g) Granulated Sugar: The foundation of our sweet treat.
- ½ cup (45g) Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: Opt for a premium brand for that deep, rich chocolate taste.
- ½ cup (113g) Unsalted Butter: One stick, providing richness and smooth texture.
- ½ cup (120ml) Whole Milk: Adds moisture and creaminess to the fudge.
- 1 tsp (5ml) Vanilla Extract: Enhances the chocolate flavor with a warm, aromatic finish.
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the milk, sugar, and cocoa powder until well combined.
- Bring to a Boil: Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat. Allow it to boil for exactly 1 minute without stirring. This is crucial for the right texture! (You’ll see it bubbling vigorously at the edges and in the center.)
- Remove and Stir: Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract. Now, let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes, then beat vigorously with a wooden spoon or electric mixer until it thickens and loses its glossy sheen, becoming creamy. This usually takes 5-7 minutes.
- Spread and Set: Quickly pour and spread the fudge into an 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) pan lined with parchment paper. Smooth the top with a spatula.
- Cool and Cut: Let the fudge cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator for about 2 hours until firm. Cut into squares and enjoy!
Notes
Note on Nutrition: Nutritional data is an estimate based on standard ingredient values and a yield of 16 servings.
For a dairy-free version, explore coconut cream or a plant-based butter alternative, noting that the texture may vary slightly. If fudge is grainy, it was likely stirred too much while boiling or not beaten enough while cooling. If fudge won’t set, it might not have reached a high enough temperature during boiling.
