Description
When the sun is shining again and the grill calls out to me, there’s one dish that makes my taste buds dance—blackened shrimp tacos. These colorful, flavorful delights feature perfectly seasoned shrimp with a charred crust, tucked into warm tortillas with zesty slaw and fresh toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 3 1/2 tablespoons Cajun-style seasoning blend
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 4 fajita-sized corn or flour tortillas
- 1 cup zesty cilantro-lime slaw
- Fresh cilantro leaves
- Sliced jalapeño (optional, for topping)
- Creamy avocado slices (for topping)
- Crumbled queso fresco (for topping)
Instructions
- Step: Begin by rinsing your shrimp under cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Step: In a mixing bowl, combine shrimp, olive oil, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and lime juice. Toss until well-coated.
- Step: Heat a cast-iron skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add a touch of olive oil if needed.
- Step: Place seasoned shrimp in the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes without moving to form a crust, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes until opaque.
- Step: Warm your tortillas directly over a gas flame or on a hot skillet for 30 seconds per side.
- Step: Assemble the tacos by placing shrimp on each tortilla and topping with slaw, cilantro, jalapeño, avocado, and queso fresco.
Notes
Use fresh shrimp for the best texture. Do not overcrowd the skillet to ensure the shrimp blacken properly rather than steaming. You can serve with lime crema by mixing sour cream with lime juice and zest.
