Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and oregano.
- Step 2: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 3: Dredge each chicken piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Step 4: Carefully place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet or fryer.
- Step 5: Fry the chicken pieces for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Step 6: Once cooked, transfer the chicken pieces to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Notes
For best results, brine chicken in water, salt, and sugar for 1 hour or overnight. Alternatively, soak in buttermilk for tenderness. For extra crispiness, double-dredge by dipping in flour, then beaten eggs, and back into flour. Keep oil temperature steady at 350°F (175°C).
