Description
This Crimson Chili Garlic Drizzle is an easy, vibrant, and utterly delicious homemade dumpling dipping sauce. It’s perfect for busy weeknights and family gatherings, offering a punch of savory, sweet, and spicy flavor.
Ingredients
- 0.25 cup (60 ml) soy sauce, low-sodium option
- 2 Tbsp (30 ml) rice vinegar
- 1 tsp (5 ml) sesame oil, toasted
- 1–2 tsp (5–10 ml) chili garlic sauce (Sambal Oelek)
- 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced (10 g)
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated (5 g)
- 1 tsp (5 g) granulated sugar
- 1–2 Tbsp (15–30 ml) water, optional
Instructions
- Whisk Ingredients: In a small mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, chili garlic sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, and granulated sugar. Whisk for about 1 minute until well combined.
- Adjust and Taste: Whisk thoroughly for about 30 seconds until the sugar dissolves completely. Taste the mixture and adjust to your preference (add more chili for heat, sugar for sweetness, or a splash of water for a thinner consistency).
- Meld Flavors: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes before serving. This allows the ingredients to marry and the flavors to deepen.
Notes
For healthier choices, opt for reduced-sodium soy sauce. Substitutions include Tamari (for gluten-free), apple cider vinegar (for rice vinegar), Sriracha (for milder heat), or honey/maple syrup/agave/monk fruit (for sugar). Pre-minced garlic and ginger can be used. If the sauce is too salty, balance with more sugar, vinegar, or water. Fresh garlic and ginger enhance the flavor significantly.
