Description
A New Orleans-inspired appetizer featuring succulent shrimp and spicy cocktail sauce layered over a savory cream cheese base.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 Tablespoon grated onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 12 ounce bottle chili sauce
- 1 Tablespoon prepared horseradish
- 2 cups fresh boiled shrimp, chopped into 1/2-inch pieces
- 2 green onion tops, chopped
Instructions
- Cream Cheese Layer: Blend together softened cream cheese, 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 Tablespoon lemon juice, onion, and garlic.
- Setting: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly in an 8-inch springform pan or shallow serving dish and refrigerate for at least 12 hours.
- Cocktail Sauce: Combine chili sauce, prepared horseradish, 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, and 1 teaspoon lemon juice.
- Assembly: Remove the sides of the springform pan, spread half of the cocktail sauce evenly over the cream cheese layer, and sprinkle chopped shrimp on top.
- Finishing: Garnish with chopped green onion tops and serve with crackers.
Notes
You can use reduced fat cream cheese if preferred. Do not substitute creamed horseradish for prepared horseradish to maintain the depth of flavor. Only half of the cocktail sauce is used for assembly; refrigerate the remainder for later use.
