Description

This Asian Chicken Marinade combines the best Asian flavors to bring you juicy grilled chicken, coated in a sweet and savory glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ lbs. boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • Sriracha hot sauce (optional)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • Chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Step: Combine the soy sauce, honey, vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger in a mixing bowl and whisk together.
  2. Step: Place chicken in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish and pour marinade mixture over top.
  3. Step: Let the chicken marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Step: Place marinated chicken on a plate and leave at room temperature while the grill preheats.
  5. Step: Set aside leftover marinade in the plastic bag–do not throw it away!
  6. Step: Clean and oil the grill grates then preheat to high heat (about 450-500° F).
  7. Step: Place chicken directly on the grill grates and cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Step: Flip, and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes (or until meat thermometer reads an internal temp of 165° F).
  9. Step: Remove chicken from the grill and tent with foil for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  10. Step: Pour the remaining marinade into a large shallow non-stick pan and bring to a full boil.
  11. Step: Immediately reduce heat to a simmer, and stir constantly with a wooden spoon until mixture has reduced and coats the back of a spoon.
  12. Step: Add drips of Sriracha hot sauce, to taste.
  13. Step: Drizzle (or brush) the finished sauce over the grilled chicken.
  14. Step: Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and/or chopped green onions and serve.

Notes

For a gluten free version, substitute tamari for the soy sauce. If using thick chicken breasts, pound them to an even thickness for even cooking. Chicken can be frozen in the marinade then thawed overnight. You can also cook the chicken on the stove top using a grill pan.
