Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 1/2 cup canned tomato sauce
- 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar, packed
- 3 tablespoons water
Instructions
- Step: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet until it begins to shimmer.
- Step: Stir in onions and saute until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Step: Add chili powder, garlic, cumin, coriander, oregano, cayenne, and salt; cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Step: Add ground beef, break up the meat, and cook until no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
- Step: Add tomato sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, and water; simmer until slightly thickened, about 10 minutes.
Notes
Blooming the spices with the onions first creates a warmer, deeper flavor. 80/20 ground beef is recommended for optimal juiciness.
