Description
This is a creamy, saucy seafood comfort dish, featuring a rich and flavorful Creole-inspired sauce drizzled over a warm bed of fluffy, buttery grits, topped with succulent, jumbo garlic-butter seasoned shrimp.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup white corn grits
- 2 ½ cups chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream (split into ½ cup portions)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons butter
- ¼ cup mascarpone cheese
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon granulated chicken bouillon
- 3 strips plant-based savory bits, crumbled (optional garnish)
- 1 tablespoon chopped green onions (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Step: Heat the butter and oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp, garlic, salt, and pepper. Sauté for about 4 minutes until the shrimp turn coral/pink. Remove and set aside.
- Step: Bring the chicken broth, ½ cup whipping cream, salt, and butter to a boil in a saucepan. Stir in the grits, reduce heat to medium-low, and cover, stirring occasionally.
- Step: After 5 minutes, fold in the mascarpone cheese, then remove from heat and cover to keep warm.
- Step: In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups heavy whipping cream, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and chicken bouillon. Bring to a boil for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Step: Add the grits to a cast-iron skillet, mixing in additional cream if needed. Place shrimp over the grits and pour the sauce over the top. Warm in the oven at 150°F for 5-7 minutes. Garnish with crumbled savory bits and green onions before serving.
Notes
Ensure you use fresh or properly thawed shrimp for the best texture. If the grits become too thick, stir in a splash of warm chicken broth or cream to reach your desired consistency. This recipe was crafted by AlmaHerzog.
